Ten Actions To Authentically Serve Others
This
piece is the first of a series of seven pieces. Each piece illustrates
one of the Seven Spiritual Laws of Success, as written by Deepak Chopra
and adapted to business, and specifically customer service. "The
first Law of Pure Potentiality says that the source of all creation is
pure consciousness . . . pure potentiality seeking expression from the
unmanifest to the manifest." What does that mean in business terms,
that our true Self is one of pure potentiality? No matter what it is that
we are "potentially" growing or developing, can we choose to
align it with the power that is at the source of everything in the universe?
And if we did, would that bring us closer to authentic service?
1. Build
Build an
abundant and generous universe, yours! It will keep you from being in
fear, as you move out of scarcity -- "scare city"! The edifice
of natural abundance will prevent you from feeling undeserving, or needy.
From the misperceived impotence of the manipulator, who ultimately believes
s/he cannot have what s/he wants, your being will soar to its genuine
power to build and nurture fruitful and satisfying relationships, and
a successful practice. Practically:
What does a client sees when entering your office? Think of the universe
as being a giant supermarket
What would you like to choose in it
that would give your business the perfect support, the perfect expression?
Would this plump yellow leather couch be a better representation than
those stylish chairs? What would your ideal client like to see? As a matter
of fact who is your ideal client? Where would s/he like to sit? With this
question in mind pick your client, your furniture, and manifest the perfect
décor for both of you
Allow yourself to have fresh flowers,
beautiful light. Replace the old paper with fresh paint. Stretch your
potential!
2. Join
Join two-gether,
not to get her! The agenda to get (what's in it for me?) only causes separation
from the whole. Sometimes you are high on a pedestal, feeling great about
your superior self, feeling in
control. That word again, that even
has me think *I* know better than God! *I* am so funny! This separation
only fosters more of a need for approval, more of a desire to evoke envy,
and soon enough, a fall into the lower and mad realms of competition!
Envision instead collaboration with each other. Doesn't that feel immensely
better? Practically;
When a customer visits your business, what do they hear? Gossips, and
alarming rumors? Noisy equipment, or unpleasant music? Do they see clutter?
Are they interacting with discontent and frowning employees? What can
you do to offer inviting sounds, fragrances, sights, and trigger all senses
pleasantly so that your customer will want to join in, participate, and
be a returning member of your organization? top

3. Evolve
Isn't our
entire purpose as sentient being to become increasingly conscious and
devoted to our evolution? Wouldn't that be the grooviest potentiality
to actually reach our highest potential? As a society, we started as hunters
and gatherers. The next stage was to practice pillaging each other's villages.
Can we as a species grow beyond our raiding agendas, and see the world
other than as a jungle or a battlefield? The choice for harmony will have
your customer come back for more, as interdependence is the only thing
we need to get; that is literally the viewpoing that keeps on giving!
Please let go of any thought of contest, and simply offer the uniqueness
of your own style! That is so attractive! Practically:
When your customer expresses a need you cannot fulfill, do you have readily
available a team of people you can recommend? Do you have a resource file
you can comfortably share with others? Learn to know what others offer,
as you do, you'll grow in understanding even better what you provide.
Do you know your niche, and have you formulated your brand to your own
specificity?
4. Find
Find the
treasure by looking for love, money or anything else where it originates;
inside! As Course in Miracles proposes; "The host of God needs not
seek to find anything." Become big enough that you can contain what
you seek, be it a satisfied client base, a business partner, the perfect
office building. Keep evolving until you are a finder, not a seeker, until
you exude joy, rather than frustration. That will change your life, your
clients, and your business! Practically;
You know how some people, when going to networking events, are trying
to collect as many cards as possible, talking to you, yet already going
to the next person? Learn to focus instead on a few quality exchanges;
adopt an explorer mind, and drop any expectations, just being in the meeting
for the pure joy of connecting
Relax in the knowing that you cannot
but attract the exact perfect situation for yourself, that will serve
both parts to perfection. Find your authentic self, and you have it all! top

5. Choose
Choose being
happy rather than right! Assess the golden rule one versus rule two and
three: 1) the customer is always right, 2) the boss is always right. 3)
In case the boss made an error, the boss is still right! Which attitude,
do you believe, will assist your customers, being happy/humorous, or being
entitled as "the boss"? Practically;
Rather than having a parking space just in front of your facility reserved
for the boss, why not have a front parking space just for the client?
Why not offering your client exactly what is desired, when it is desired?
Why not making it really easy for your client to reach you?
6. Give
By giving
up being right, you have already gone a step beyond your intellect that
wants to argue to no end
The war is over! You have also started
distancing the animal consciousness that was seeing the customer as your
ticket meal
Playing to win is another form of domination, which
you can transcend by giving your customer the ability to win! Be that
much a kind and noble being, that not only you have given up being right,
but that you also go one step farther, and let your customer have the
high hand in all games. Practically;
Answer your phone within 3 rings, smile when you speak, and be present
to the customer who calls by not double tasking! Share your enthusiasm
for the client's question, make him or her feel special, by never sounding
too busy or in a hurry. Really be happy to talk to your customer! If using
voicemail, make the message clear and pleasant. Depending on the nature
of your business, you may want to make your customer more comfortable
by making your message day-specific - 'Hello, you have reached such and
such, and it is Friday the 2nd...

Whether
selling a product or being in a service oriented business, your clients
are not to be viewed as the golden goose, that will deliver more eggs
to you, more favors, more advantages, more admiration
Hear it once
and for all; this is not about you; it will never be about you, and the
sooner you let yourself know that, the more in genuine service you will
be to your customers, the more fulfilled you will be, and the more prosperous
your business will become! Allow yourself to distance your selfishness,
and to be compassion, and to be of caring assistance. Practically,
Certainly have some personal items on your desk, yet not too many that
they would demand more attention than what you have available for your
clients. When they are in your place of business, ask yourself mentally
how you can help, be a caring listener
As a matter of fact, whether
in business or life, let that sentence become a mantra: "how can
I help?" 8. Inquire
Listening
also implies to make certain that your speaking is clean. When talking
to a potential client, ask yourself regularly if there is an intention
that is not consciously stated. Is there anything unsaid, if only to yourself?
The desiring mind is at times so powerful in its deceptive intent that
it helps to make certain that you would not want to hide anything you
do, instead that all of your actions can be revealed
Practically;
Make sure all your business goals feel intuitively right, which they will
if they are in alignment to a bigger picture, where others rather than
self is being served. Pay attention to how you feel after a business meeting;
your peacefulness will be a barometer to gauge the purity of your intentions.
9. Empty
Should it
happen that you find any self-serving agendas, empty them. Adopt a warrior
spirit, and be adamant in discarding any unmet need "bug" you
may see in your mind programming. Let it know that your intention is and
will remain to be in service, and to share your gifts for the good of
all. Look for any unclean communication, such as biases, judgments, any
wants, shoulds or coulds. Be fully responsible (response-able) in your
communication! Practically;
Do not speak of you unless it is to benefit the client, be empty and transparent!
Take time to be silent, to empty your mind of any negative belief that
might contaminate your relationships. Take time daily to be silent, to
just be! Certainly, empty the garbage especially in all the rooms where
you receive your clients. No one enjoys a smelly office. As a matter of
fact, you may want to pick up a few essential oils and spark the senses
of your clients deliberately.

Have an
open agenda. Even if it is about any private agenda you may have. After
all, it is simply possible that it might be in hiding
Total honesty,
and I don't mean being hurtful, is not only refreshing and a total turn
on; it also goes hand in hand with and completes the synergy of all that
is beautiful and good. That honesty will be the backbone of your business,
and the foundation of your trustworthiness. Practically;
Make your business healthy by establishing boldly and sharing freely policies
and procedures. And if you have an agenda, speak it, loud and clear; "This
session is complimentary, and a gift for you and me. At the end of it,
if I feel I can assist you, and if we both agree that we work well together,
I will ask you to hire me as your Inspiration Anchor. Would that be all
right with you?" top
